This past month has been extremely busy over at the DMP. I'm sure you're familiar with the 'Homegrown' segment, where we get a chance to showcase unique talents and achievements from the people across Australia. We're all about promoting homegrown talent except this past month we've also decided to make an exception and extend the homegrown segment to include undiscovered talent from outside of Australia.
Sometime last month Ranjha and I were contacted by a vocalist (Manjit) who's setup over in India. Manjit was familiar with the radio programme and the different elements of the show. To cut a long story short, he basically said that he wanted to enter into the homegrown segment. We asked him what he did and he told us that he had been singing for quite a number of years. He was even selected to appear on the Awaaz Punjab Di tv progamme but had to drop out due to personal reasons.
We asked him to sing a few tunes that he was familiar with, just to put him to the test we also asked him to sing something completely fresh, so in the final part of the recording he's singing a piece that was written by one of his mate's who just happens to be a lyrcist. He's definitely got some vocal power and he really rips it up with his version of a Lehmber tune... now speaking of Lehmber, theres another fella who's been in the scene for quite sometime. He goes by the name of Kaka Bhaniawala and to be quite honest he's being touted as the next Lehmber by quite a few producers in the scene as he can sing notes as high as Lehmber and even then he somehow manages to pulll it up a couple more notches. We've included a snippet of him singing a tune off of Bazaar Records next release 'Raw as Folk' which should be dropping sometime next month.
Now lastly, for all of those Tru-Skool fans out there. I'm certain your familiar with his work in the scene as a producer over the past couple of years, but did you know that he also sings?!! Production-wise he's brought out some BIG tunes alongside Specialist. Now we're bringing you a sample of Tru-Skool making his singing debut, must say he's got some definite oldschool vibes coming off this one.
